THE CITY AND COMMUNE PUBLIC LIBRARY
The City and Commune Public Library is the oldest cultural establishment in
Miedzychod. Its beginnings go as far as the year 1945.
Currently, it
possesses 4 branches, among them 3 are located in villages, and 11 library
points. Since 1974, a temporal library post has been launched in the
Mierzyn-Ustronie Holiday Centre. It stays open during the seasons. In 1999,
the total volume of the Library book collection reached 66,221. In that
year, a total number of 4,721 readers borrowed 80,158 books.
Inter-library
books' borrowing has reached a fair lever of popularity particularly among
students.
The Library runs a special department of books recorded on audiotapes for
disabled persons.
The Library's Regional Departments is responsible for:
- iconography documentation
- collecting historical materials
- and documents reflecting communities' way of life.
The members of its staff lecture on history of the region and give students
of elementary and high schools lessons in library usage.
THE REGIONAL MUSEUM IN MIEDZYCHOD
It was founded on 8 November 1976.
On weekdays (except Mondays and days following Holidays) and weekends, the
Museum welcomes visitors to its permanent expositions:
Tuesday: 9.00 - 13.00
Wednesday: 10.00 - 16.00
Thursday: 12.00 - 18.00
Friday: 9.00 - 12.00
Saturday: 9.00 - 15.00
Sunday: 9.00 - 14.00
- the large ethnographic collection from the area of the Notecka Forest.
It includes, among others, the oldest one-furrow plough that was preserved
in Wielkopolska, ox-shoes etc...
- the historical exposition "The Wielkopolska Uprising on the Land of
Miedzychod and Sierakow". The collection includes the serviette from the
Hotel Bristol with original the signature of the members of the Entanta
Commission, among them the signature of the Chief Commander General
Dowbor-Mosnicki.
The members of the museum staff give lessons in history and museum science
on the following subjects:
- The History of Miedzychod (supported with slides)
- The Oak Sanctuary - Kolno (supported with slides)
- Legends of the Miedzychod Land
- Yesterday and Today of Housholds.
- The Textile Industry of Wielkopolska with particular emphasis on the
Miedzychod Region.
For several years, to preserve tradition, the staff members of the Museum
has organise two competitions:
- At Christmas - For the most interesting Chrismtas Tree Decoration
- At Easter - For a Palm, Easter egg and Easter lamb
